Fernando Alonso made several attempts to win the famous Indianapolis 500, but all were in vain. The Aston Martin driver said he has no plans to return to Brick in the near future, and will try to win the Dakar rally raid after finishing his Formula 1 career.
“It’s an attractive target to win the Monaco Grand Prix, win Le Mans and win the Indy 500 to complete the Triple Crown,” Fernando Alonso said at a sponsor event. – I have competed in the Indy 500 three times, but I never succeeded. This is the only win I need for the Triple Crown, but appearances in Indianapolis are not in my plans at the moment. In the next two or three years I will focus enormously on Formula 1, because I want to win a third title. This is my first and only priority.
After I leave Formula 1, I will be 45, 46 years old, and to participate in the Indy 500 I will have to take on too serious a commitment. At this point I think it will be too much for me. I can’t give a 100% guarantee, but most likely I won’t be ready because I have other goals in life.
I think my next challenge will be to participate in the Dakar Rally. If I win the Dakar it will be a huge achievement. I have won in Formula 1, Le Mans and Daytona, and if I become the winner of a rally stage it will mean a lot to me.”
