Former Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner believes Red Bull will be unable to catch McLaren this season, despite rumors of a “magical” update for the US Grand Prix.
Günther Steiner: “The update schedule is planned in advance. I don’t think anyone will benefit from this break anymore; teams have long developed solutions for Austin.
You can always prepare better, but everyone is already very well prepared. A week or three between races – I don’t think the level of preparation will be any different.
The big question is how much the new underbody will help Red Bull, but I don’t think anyone will be able to overtake McLaren this year. They looked great in Singapore.
The Ferrari drivers could play a more important role than in Singapore, where they should theoretically have been ahead of Max, but qualified poorly and the race had no red flags, no safety car, nothing to help progress.
I think McLaren will have the advantage at the end of the season, but Max will do everything he can to retain the title.”
