Andretti Global’s bid to enter the World Championship is unlikely to be approved, but work on creating a Formula 1 team continues.
The project now employs approximately 250 employees, many contractors and specialists in other industries. The Silverstone base introduced this year is currently being equipped. The team size will increase by another 25% before Christmas.
Since Andretti’s request was not granted and the team is not among the active ones, no restrictions apply – neither in terms of working time in the wind tunnel nor financially. According to Speedcafe, Andretti engineers work in different shifts in the wind tunnel, which is fully at the team’s disposal.
These efforts will allow the team to have a chassis that meets the regulations for the 2026 season, intended for load and crash tests, before the Christmas holidays.
There is a sense that this is work for work’s sake. It is difficult to imagine that the team, at least under the current management of Liberty Media, will be allowed to participate in the World Cup. It is more likely that other goals have been set, not sporting goals, but rather legal goals.
Mario Andretti once claimed that Liberty Media boss Greg Maffei said he would “do everything possible to ensure that his son Michael and his project never end up in Formula 1.”
Nevertheless, Andretti Global continues to work and refutes rumors of internal tensions. We recently wrote that Michael Andretti was set to retire from day-to-day operations, but the team says he was misunderstood.
