Fernando Alonso became the first recipient of the Madrid Jarama-RACE Circuit award in recognition of his contribution to the development of Spanish motorsport.
A special jury unanimously recognized that the two-time Formula 1 champion was worthy of a new special award from the Spanish Automobile Federation. It was presented by the President of the RACE Circuit and the President of the FIA Senate, Carmelo Sanz de Barros, and the Director of the Jarama Circuit, Ignacio Fernandez.
As explained by the Spanish Automobile Federation, Alonso was rewarded for “his exceptional contribution to the development of motorsport in the country, but also for his close ties with the Jarama circuit through participation in various events and promotions.”
The Jarama Circuit is located 32 km north of the Spanish capital and has been owned by the Royal Automobile Club of Spain since 1981. He hosted the Spanish Grand Prix nine times, the last time in 1981.
