Aston Martin has lured a lot of top talent away from other teams in recent years, including Enrico Cardile, Dan Fallows, Tom McCullough and the brilliant Adrian Newey.
2016 world champion Nico Rosberg compared the approach to the strategy of French football club PSG, which invited Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in the hope of winning the Champions League. But the team lost – and all three fled to other teams.
Nico Rosberg: “Think of PSG in football. They had Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé at the same time – three of the best footballers of all time, and the rest were very good too, but they never won the Champions League.
It’s great to attract the greatest geniuses, but it takes time for them to work together because you’re only as good as the coordination of the team.
Adrian Newey alone cannot turn this car into a title contender, he needs the rest of the team for that. Yes, he can give them the right direction, give them the right instructions, but he still needs a strong team behind him that will succeed with him.
We have to find out whether we can do this or not, but it will be extremely difficult for them to immediately feel like one big family with everyone moving in the same direction.”
