Seidl: Opponents are no worse than us, but in some ways they are ahead

At the end of the first part of the season McLaren was in fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship, allowing Alpine F1 to continue, but the Renault works team only has 4 points left, so the intense battle for fourth place is likely to continue until the end of the championship.

But regardless of this season’s results at Woking, they expect the hard work put in at the base of the team to pay off and McLaren to get stronger over the next two years.

“Before the start of the new era of Formula 1, I did not predict that the balance of power would undergo a major change. Just because the teams are getting better, everyone has a stable and developed infrastructure and everyone is using good equipment,” Seidl told RacingNews365. – I see no reason that could stop rivals preparing for this new era from better handling the task than U.S.

As you can see, this is exactly what is happening. In addition, we must not forget that all the teams whose budgets have been less than McLaren’s in the past – and we were fourth in size and funding level – were suddenly also actively participating in the fray. Some of them, such as Alpine and Alfa Romeo, already have excellent modern infrastructure.

Therefore, we must take into account that they are all no worse than us, and it cannot be excluded that they are even ahead of us in some respects. We are not happy with this situation, but it is a reality. But the most important thing for me is that our team continues to make progress in many areas this year. This is reflected in how well the base work is going in Woking, how we prepare for the races, how efficiently we make pit stops.

Despite the fact that the season is not easy, the team continues. The main task is that in three years’ time we can regularly claim victory in the race. The aim is to have a new wind tunnel ready by the middle of next year, so this will have an immediate positive effect on the development of the machine for 2024.

But the first car to be built entirely with this wind tunnel will be the chassis from 2025. At the same time, work on a new racing simulator is due to be completed by the end of 2022 or early next year and we hope this season will bear fruit. Also, the capacity of the equipment used by the CFD department has been significantly increased, while at the same time a major upgrade of the machinery of our production department is underway, all of which will enable our team to get better.”
