Formula 1 team “Mercedes” was scammed by someone who presented themselves as a fan on social media Lewis Hamilton .
On social networks, the man pretended to be a fan of the seven-time world champion and a 20-year-old boy with an incurable form of cancer.
First, the man posted a message saying he had a curable disease. He later even claimed to have been in a near-fatal car accident, garnering a lot of sympathy from fellow social media users. The reports caught the attention of Mercedes, who reportedly invited him to visit the company’s factories and attend this season’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
After some time, a message appeared on the man’s account about his death after a deterioration in his health. Mercedes expressed condolences to the owner of the account.
However, in a shocking turn of events, it was revealed that the Account Owner, allegedly named ‘Liam T’, is actually a 28-year-old man who works at the hospital. The Cytrus account cited data that the man has two children, and he did not suffer from cancer and was not in a suspected car accident. Liam is alive and well.
As soon as the news broke, Mercedes immediately deleted their posts about Liam’s alleged death. The 28-year-old not only swayed the team to get an exclusive tour and access to the Hungarian Grand Prix, but he also benefited from the cancer campaign. Liam has already shut down all his pages on the internet.
