In Formula 1, the rule of awarding 1 point for the fastest lap in a race will be abolished, the racing series’ press service reports.
This amendment to the competition regulations was approved following a meeting of the world council of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and will come into force in 2025.
The rule of awarding a bonus point for the fastest lap has been in effect since 2019. To receive 1 point, a driver must also finish in the top 10.
The points distribution system 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 (in the top 10) has not changed.
