At the end of September, Renault announced the closure of the development and production program for Formula 1 engines. In Austin, Esteban Ocon, driving for the French carmaker’s factory team, commented on the decision.
Esteban Ocon: “It is difficult for me to comment on this decision, as a team driver. But as a Frenchman, as a sports fan and as a French racing driver, I can say that this is a sad situation. A very sad day for all of French motorsport. I have nothing more to add.”
Asked about the Alpine’s chances in Austin, Esteban said: “We have had some very difficult races given the speed of the car. I think it’s clear. In Singapore we maximized our potential, but that wasn’t enough to earn points.
New things are coming to Pierre Gasly’s car in Austin. This weekend I’ll be driving the car in the old configuration, but I hope to get updates in the coming races.
We look forward to seeing what speed boost the new products will deliver. Hopefully they will allow us to challenge for higher positions at the end of the season.”
