Of the RB riders, only Yuki Tsunoda managed to reach the final of Friday’s sprint qualification. Liam Lawson, back behind the wheel after a break of more than a year, failed to do so, but he is willing to admit that the car is capable of good speed.
Yuki Tsunoda (9th): “The day was not easy, but we managed to reach the last qualifying for the sprint, which is good. We’re still behind Haas and Williams – it looks like they were capable of quite a high pace today.
Now we have to analyze where we can improve, and maybe we will find a way to make the car better so that we can reach the final of Saturday’s qualifying.
In the sprint we will start from 9th position and we will do everything we can to earn points.”
Liam Lawson (15th): “It was nice to be behind the wheel again. The required speeds had to be achieved very quickly and we gradually went up, but when I started to think we could find the limit of what was possible, I came too wide and hit the curb, which caused serious slippage of the drive wheels .
Of course I tried to make up for it afterwards, but the lap turned out to be unimportant, which I only regret because we have a fast car. To be honest, I felt quite comfortable and it felt like everything should have ended well. But this will be a lesson for us that we will take into account as we prepare for Saturday.”
