Before the start of the race weekend in Austin, Max Verstappen advised Oscar Piastri not to accept the role of co-driver at McLaren and not to help Lando Norris in the battle for the title. In response, Piastri thanked the Red Bull Racing driver and said his view of the situation was different from Max’s.
Oscar Piastri: “I think Max is a pretty straightforward guy. He says what he thinks. But I don’t see that we have a division into number one and number two. If I show good speed and deserve a result, then… In Baku there was a good example that I shouldn’t give up everything for Lando this season.
I try to help the team as best I can. But we have no division in the first and second numbers. Lando and I have the same cars and equal opportunities. In the last stage in Singapore he did better than me and won the race.
I appreciate Verstappen’s support, but I see this situation differently than he does.”
