Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes British McLaren driver Lando Norris was rightly punished for overtaking reigning world champion Max Verstappen at the United States Grand Prix.
Norris lost third place in the race due to a 5-second penalty for overtaking Verstappen off the track late in the race. Additionally, both drivers started from the front row, but due to a fight in the first corner, they let Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, who won the stage, pass.
“It was a competitive race and fun to watch.” All riders know the rules very well. It was very clear that Norris had gone off the track, so he had to get the place back. He decided not to do so and was fined as a result. The stewards handled this situation quite quickly and with dignity,” Horner said according to Motorsport Week.
Verstappen maintains his lead in the overall championship standings with 354 points. Norris is second (297) and remains in contention for the title.
The next stage of the Formula 1 championship will be held in Mexico from October 25 to 27.
