Verstappen: I tried everything to keep Lando

Max Verstappen finished fourth in Austin, but moved up to third after Lando Norris’ time was added to five seconds. In the individual competition, the Red Bull Racing driver’s lead over Norris grew to 57 points five stages before the end of the season.

Sergio Perez earned six points for seventh place.

Max Verstappen (3rd): “A pretty difficult race. The car didn’t have the pace to attack. The car had severe understeer and had difficulty braking, making defending quite difficult.

Every time someone tried to overtake, I couldn’t brake too late. The fight with Lando turned out to be very difficult – I did everything I could to hold him back. Ultimately, a podium place is a great result.

Fight Lando on Turn 12? I have an opinion about that, but I don’t need to express it here. Let the stewards do their job.

The team has learned a lot in this race, so there is a lot to analyze.”

Sergio Perez (7th): “Unfortunately I lost time at the beginning of the race and got stuck in the middle of the pack. Apparently the best strategy was to start with Hard. Shortly before the finish I let George Russell go ahead, who had just completed the first segment on Hard.

The car had no speed all weekend. It is not the easiest stage; We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
