On August 14, 1988, Enzo Ferrari, the legendary Commandatore, completed his earthly journey and Ferrari decided to honor the memory of the company’s founder by choosing an unusual way to do this.
Here’s how the Scuderia’s press office wrote: “On this day, on the 34th anniversary of his departure, we remember Enzo Ferrari and his innovative ideas, which continue to underpin everything we do at Ferrari.
Continuing to be inspired by his vision, we asked Flavio Manzoni, Chief Designer of Ferrari, to recreate the famous photo of our founder: in this portrait you can see that Enzo Ferrari’s eyes are on the future. This is kind of a statement of his attitude to the cause and the values that guide us to this day.”
About what inspired the creator of this interesting portrait, Manzoni himself said: “I immediately liked the idea, because I drew the outlines of new Ferrari models for years. The more I thought about painting the portrait of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the company, to recreate, the more it fascinated me.
This made it possible to understand the way of his thoughts, but above all to record what we see in the expression of his face, in those sparks that shine in his eyes – they have an unshakable confidence in themselves, aimed at achieving of the highest results.
In the original old photo he is looking into the camera lens, but I thought it was interesting that he was looking somewhere beyond the horizon because he was actually looking into the future.
