Helmut Marko has blamed Liam Lawson for his collision with Sergio Perez early in the race in Mexico City. According to Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, the RB driver should not have fought aggressively against his rival from the sister team.
“Red Bull and RB are sister teams and Lawson should not have fought as hard as he did,” ESPN quoted Marco as saying. “Liam reacted too harshly to events on the track.”
Red Bull Racing head Christian Horner is also dissatisfied with Liam Lawson’s actions: “Of course Liam has apologized to Sergio for this incident. I have no doubt he will draw conclusions. Of course it’s a shame that Sergio’s car was damaged, causing him to lose important points.”
When Marco was asked whether Perez’s result at his home circuit would affect his chances of staying with Red Bull Racing, Hellmuth replied: “We cannot judge his results because Sergio’s car was damaged. That’s why he couldn’t compete at the limit flying.
Furthermore, the car itself lacked speed, as we couldn’t get the Hard or Medium tires to work. Then there was a collision between Sergio and Lawson, which led to serious damage: Perez lost around 60 points of downforce. His car was far from competitive.
Let’s see how Sergio performs in the next four races.”
