George Russell said 19 of the 20 Formula 1 drivers agree to make changes to the overtaking rules. The Mercedes driver made this statement after the finish of the race in Mexico City, in which Max Verstappen received two ten-second penalties for pushing Lando Norris off the track.
George Russell: “I think the stewards also fully agree that the rules need to be changed. They want to do it in 2025 to maintain consistency throughout the current season, but I can say that 19 out of 20 riders agree with the following statement: “If the rules are wrong, let’s change them today.”
I am pleased that the incidents in the race were not without consequences, and I trust that no one in Brazil will escape punishment for similar actions that we saw in Mexico City and Austin.
Sometimes it is not that easy to adjust the rules, because a voting procedure is required. But as I said, nineteen riders unanimously agree that changes to the rules are needed. We have already witnessed many maneuvers that go beyond entertainment and fair sport.”
