In Sao Paulo, Verstappen faces a fine with a loss of position

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko said the team is considering the possibility of replacing the engine in Max Verstappen’s car at Interlagos and then losing positions at the start due to a penalty.

In the final stage in Mexico City, Red Bull Racing replaced the engine in the current world champion’s car, but did not install a new one, but one of the previously used ones. According to Marco, this engine is already at the end of its life and will therefore have to be replaced.

Helmut Marko: “The engine we delivered to Max in Mexico City can no longer be used in racing. The older the engine, the less efficient it is. In the last stage we saw that we lost 3 to 8 km/h to our rivals on the straights.

In Sao Paulo you don’t have to do much to change your bike as it is a relatively easy circuit to overtake. The penalty of losing positions will be less painful than using an old engine.”
