“I know what I’m doing. I’m a three-time world champion.” Verstappen responds to criticism after Mexican Grand Prix penalties

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has responded to criticism after receiving fines at the Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix, stressing that he is confident in his actions.

During the race, the Dutch driver received two ten-second penalties for tackling McLaren’s Lando Norris. Verstappen finished sixth in the race. Verstappen has been criticized for his behavior on the track, most notably by 1996 Formula One champion Damon Hill.

– I don’t listen to these people. I’m just doing my thing. I’m a three-time world champion, I think I know what I’m doing. I have my opinion, but I don’t need to share it. I like to win, I don’t like to lose. I just tried to give the best result, like I said, some win, some lose.

The situation with the rules? I think everything is not so simple, even if we talk about the number of seconds [штрафного времени] you receive. Sometimes they [правила] work for you, sometimes against you. I think the situation will never be ideal, because even if you remove the rules, you fight on the track, you will want more rules, because it is not clear what is allowed and what is not. When there are too many rules, you want there to be fewer,” Verstappen said, as quoted by Autosport.

With four rounds remaining in the season, Verstappen leads the general standings, 47 points ahead of Norris.
