Perez: Lawson has had many incidents in the past

Sergio Perez doesn’t believe the potential of a move to Red Bull Racing led to Liam Lawson battling him more aggressively than any other opponent at the Mexico City race.

Immediately after the finish, an angry Perez said that Lawson had the wrong attitude towards racing and that Liam needed to become more modest. On Thursday in Sao Paulo, Sergio was asked whether his opinion of the RB driver had changed after a few days.

“It is clear to me that his gestures towards me were made in the heat of the moment,” Sergio Perez replied. “But then we had some time to process what happened.

All I can say is that the race was going great for both of us at that point. I used an alternative strategy, it was only a few laps after the start, there were a lot of opportunities ahead and we didn’t necessarily have to collide. We all agree that we lost a lot of important points and that is all that matters.”

Asked directly whether he believed Liam Lawson, in a head-to-head battle with him on track, was trying to prove to Red Bull Racing bosses that he deserved a place in the team, Sergio replied: “No, I don’t think so . Think about the last few races: he had a lot of incidents. I don’t think he behaved in a special way because he fought me.”
