With four Grands Prix to go until the end of the season, Lando Norris is 47 points behind Max Verstappen in the battle for the individual title. The Brit hopes that the championship leader’s battle will be fair this time…
Lando Norris: “I still have a lot of respect for Max. Not because of what he did last weekend, but because of his performance. I won’t discuss his actions on the court with him. I am not his teacher, not his mentor. I just have nothing to say to him. Max knows what to do. Deep down he knows he did something wrong last week. And he should change, not me.
Max is one of the best racers on the track, if not the best. He knows his capabilities, understands where his limits are and what he needs to change.
I have achieved good results in my career by trying to avoid accidents and keep my car intact. All these little things make an impact as the year progresses, especially when resources are limited.
I have always strived for fair and clean racing. Last weekend I said I might have been too soft on defense or attack. But I think I’ve always made the right decisions in that regard. Sometimes I paid the price for not being aggressive enough, but that’s not just me. There are times when you need to avoid a potential accident and you don’t see it on TV.
I start this weekend with new expectations, hoping for a clean and fair race. I think that’s what we can expect.”
