Alex Albon showed the ninth fastest time in qualifying for the sprint in Sao Paulo and said the result could have been higher. His Williams teammate Franco Colapinto qualified fourteenth and explained this due to the fact that he could not drive cleanly during the decisive attempt.
Alex Albon (9th): “I’m a little disappointed with the ninth fastest time, because I think the result could have been a little higher. The tires are so sensitive on this track that it is crucial to get very precisely within their operating range.
In the sprint, tire wear will be significant, and we still have work to do to better understand the characteristics of the Soft compound. However, we have quite a high pace over a long series of laps, so the sprint will be interesting. I will start just behind the top eight, so we will see what result we can achieve.”
Franco Colapinto (14th): “It was great to get behind the wheel again and drive on the Interlagos circuit for the first time.
Qualifying for the sprint turned out to be quite difficult. In the first session it took a long time for the tires to reach operating temperature, and in the second session I couldn’t get a clear lap. Given the minimal gaps, this has led to this result. Let’s see what results we achieve in the sprint. There is still a lot to do this weekend.
The last few days have been fantastic thanks to the support I have received from the fans. They create a great atmosphere.”
