Leclerc: Ferrari as laggard this weekend

During qualifying for the sprint at the Brazilian Interlagos circuit, Charles Leclerc posted the third fastest time, losing only to his rivals from McLaren. After the session, the Ferrari driver said he didn’t expect more today. His teammate Carlos Sainz set the fifth fastest time.

Charles Leclerc (3rd): “I’m happy because we achieved the best possible result today. I don’t think anything could have been better. The McLaren drivers are very fast, while we are behind this weekend. But we have to at least try to earn a lot of points.

I don’t want to say on the first day of the weekend that McLaren is out of reach for us this weekend. We will do our best to combat them. But judging by their pace today, we can say they are very fast.”

Carlos Sainz (5th): “Qualifying for the sprint turned out to be very difficult. The track temperature dropped, making it impossible to bring the tires into operating range. On soft tires there is potential to gain some more time. Our plan is to find a way to get more out of the soft tires during qualifying on Saturday.

I don’t have the worst starting position and there are still many unknowns waiting for us in the sprint. Must be fun. We will try to have a good sprint, gain as many positions as possible and prepare for qualifying.”
