In Sao Paulo, Max Verstappen did not win the sprint for the first time this season and finished third. However, the Red Bull Racing driver faces a penalty and loss of position as stewards investigate his possible breach in virtual safety car mode, when Max at one point got too close to Oscar Piastri and failed to maintain the required distance.
Max Verstappen: “The sprint was difficult, but I had a good pace thanks to the fact that I could constantly use DRS, so I’m quite happy.
It took me too long to overtake Charles Leclerc, but everyone was on the DRS train, so it was difficult to attack. I had to wait for Charles to make a mistake, and luckily he did and I was able to take advantage.
Our pace was promising. Tomorrow the race could be rainy, and in that case a lot of unknowns await us, but today everything went well.
Hopefully we can remain competitive in the remaining sessions of the weekend. The McLaren drivers are very fast on one lap, but I hope we can keep losses to a minimum given my penalty of losing five places at the start.”
