Norris: We did what we had to do.

Lando Norris won the sprint in Sao Paulo, but Oscar Piastri helped him and let his teammate take the lead on lap 22, although the Australian McLaren driver started from pole and led almost the entire distance of Saturday’s short race.

Lando Norris (1st): “I’m not proud of this victory, but we did well as a team, so I thank Oscar. This is the result we wanted to achieve and the team did a great job. Oscar deserved to win, but we did what we had to do.

We showed great pace and I’m already looking forward to qualifying and tomorrow’s race. But overall it wasn’t easy to stay close behind Oscar’s car, and this interval was constantly changing in one direction or the other. I overtook him, then lagged behind and then overtook him again. And all because you lose a lot of time if you drive in a zone with disturbed air.

It seemed to me that I was a little faster, although I could not overtake Oscar. However, I was in a positive mood as we were clearly faster than the guys behind us.

But in the sprint you have to solve difficult problems because you have to control many things and attack at the same time, but we did well.”

Oscar Piastri (2nd): “Not the easiest race. The track is very rough and the racing line is incredibly narrow. If you make a mistake with the position of the car on the track, with only the width of the tire, you will immediately be in big trouble.

But the team did a great job, we earned a lot of points. I think we also gathered a lot of information that will be useful to us in tomorrow’s race.

Ferrari was able to set a great pace at the start and Max picked up the thread at the end, so I think we still have some work to do, but we are showing decent form.”
