The Aston Martin team still doesn’t please its fans; Saturday results at the Sao Paulo circuit turned out to be worse than predicted: Fernando Alonso took only 18th place in the sprint, Lance Stroll – 19th.
Alonso admitted that all attempts to increase the car’s pace at least slightly led to nothing.
“We have changed a lot on the car, but there are still not enough positive things, do you agree? – the Spanish newspaper Marca quotes the words of the two-time world champion. – In reality, from the very beginning of the weekend we had no pace at all, and even now it has not increased. We have to do something before we qualify and try to at least find some pace.
However, the race can take place in the rain, so anything is possible. There are always a lot of events happening on this track, you always have to be on your guard, you have to be ready to attack. Even though our team has only been eighth or ninth fastest in about the last eight or nine races, we still remain in these positions…
The more bends there are on the track, the more difficult it is for us. And where there are more straight lines, our business tends to proceed more or less normally. But now we are in a difficult situation.
Sometimes small miracles happen, like in Baku and Singapore, where we managed to earn points. I think we are only now understanding that those results were truly a miracle. Overall, if we were fighting for the podium last year, this year we dropped to last place.
But you can’t give up, you have to try to improve. You can’t count on a miracle every weekend, so that gives us something to think about as we prepare for next year.”
