Lewis Hamilton had the great honor this weekend to drive several laps around the Sao Paulo circuit in Ayrton Senna’s championship car. And the McLaren MP4/5B made a strong impression on Hamilton…
Lewis Hamilton: “I’m overwhelmed with emotions, childhood memories of watching the Brazilian Grand Prix on TV, hearing the sound of those engines, seeing Ayrton Senna win this race… I just can’t believe that I have had the chance to drive his car – this is a great honor!
When I arrived at the circuit today it was not even four o’clock in the morning, this is a very special day. I am extremely grateful to everyone who made this all possible. And I am grateful to all Brazilians for their love and support. I love this country and these people very much. Including the fact that I was even given the great honor of becoming a citizen of Brazil.
The experience I had driving Ayrton Senna’s car was the best moment of the weekend for me. I hope he would be proud of it. Since this may not happen again in my career, I didn’t stop and did a few more laps than necessary!
This is a real racing car and if I had the chance, I would still love to race it today!”
