Lando Norris won the qualifying in Sao Paulo, which took place in difficult conditions, and this is a very important achievement for the McLaren driver, who is fighting for the championship title.
Lando Norris (1st): “Today there were many different events, but I am very happy! At the beginning of qualifying I had a lot of problems, I had to put in a lot of effort and I still felt completely uncomfortable behind the wheel, but in the end I won pole.
I put in a lot of work during qualifying because there were a lot of areas where I needed to improve, and I did that. I did some good laps, although again I was a bit surprised that I could be on pole. At the end of qualifying I was in a good mood because we had achieved such a good result.
For me it was harder than it seemed to those watching the qualifying on TV. You always try to improve a little more, and at the same time I saw many flying off the track, the wheels locking and the cars crashing. It could easily turn into serious trouble, you could hit a wall, or something else could happen and you risked not starting the race at all.
Overall today it was not easy to get a reward for taking risks, especially considering the positions I was in in the first part of qualifying. That’s why I’m so happy: after everything that happened, the qualifications went quite well.
Now I just look ahead! The fast guys start behind me, George Russell did a good lap in qualifying and Yuki was very fast all day today. It’s very difficult to work on the track in such conditions, but I don’t always set myself easily achievable goals.
We will try to prepare for the race as best as possible, I hope we can start it normally, for this I need a good start. Let’s see what we can do.”
