Max Verstappen had an incredibly cool Sao Paulo Grand Prix, which took place in the rain, demonstrating his best qualities, and took a brilliant victory, the 8th of the season and the 62nd of his career.
Max Verstappen (1st): “My mood changed constantly today because we had a lot of bad luck in qualifying due to red flags. From 17th position I knew that a very difficult race awaited me. But we managed to avoid problems, we made the right decisions, stayed calm and the car just flew around the track!
Overall, everything together made this result possible. But to win on this track after starting from such a distant position is simply incredible! It is very difficult to overtake on this circuit with its renewed asphalt surface, as it was possible to drive along only one stretch.
But I just knew I had to try, even though the front wheels could easily lock up in Turn 1. Still, I had to find a way and it helped me a lot to be able to brake with confidence. There are always exciting overtaking opportunities in Turn 1, and I hope the fans in the stands appreciate this!”
