Over the course of the Interlagos weekend, teams and drivers worked with all compound and tire types, collecting a wealth of information for Pirelli.
Mario Isola: “Busy Sunday! It has happened in the past that we have had qualifying and the race on the same day, but never so early and in such a short time – many members of the Formula 1 family heard their alarms long before dawn! We must thank everyone who worked hard to ensure that the weekend program could be fully completed in this unstable weather.
Nearly three hundred thousand spectators gathered at Interlagos, and I am sure that they and everyone watching on TV and on various social platforms were rewarded with a spectacular spectacle of qualifying and racing. They experienced a whole range of emotions, which often happens when rain emphasizes the riders’ skills.
From a technical point of view, we leave Interlagos having collected a lot of useful information. In today’s qualifying we saw how rain and intermediate tires work and we were able to clearly determine their range. There was a point in the race where a direct comparison between the two tire types could have been made.
Please note that the rain varied in intensity several times and that on the completely new track surface, the grip on the wet surface was very weak, partly due to the oily layer. I think overall the tires were up to the task.”
