Colapinto: I tried to warm up the tires but lost control

The final day of the race weekend in Sao Paulo went extremely poorly for Williams. In qualifying, Franco Colapinto and Alex Albon crashed their cars, and the damage to Albon’s car was so severe that the team did not have time to repair it, and Alex did not start.

Franco Colapinto was battling for points in the race, but crashed his car for the second time that day while the safety car was on track. Three races before the end of the season, Williams dropped to penultimate place in the constructors’ championship.

Franco Colapinto (meeting): “I’m very sorry for the team after everything that happened today. It is very difficult for everyone because the situation is not in our favor. The team did a great job getting my car ready for the race again after the incident in qualifying. I’m sorry it ended like this.

The car was fast and we wanted to take every opportunity in the race. We made a pit stop and I returned to the track on intermediate tires. I was trying to warm them up and lost control of the car on one of the rivers that crossed the highway.

The team will recover. There are still three races ahead and we will do everything we can to get back.”

Alex Albon (didn’t start): “Apparently a very disappointing day. I feel sorry for the team and I know that the damage of the last few weeks has been enormous and will make things difficult for us in the next three races.

It’s no surprise that the last few weeks have been challenging, but I finally feel like we’ve found our rhythm and are back in good shape. We had a strong pace in qualifying and I felt comfortable behind the wheel.

I didn’t expect to fly away in the first corner – we need to understand what exactly happened. Too bad, because today was a good opportunity to earn points. We knew in advance that there are crazy races in Brazil, and today our rivals took full advantage of that.

I know it’s not easy for the team, but in times like these you have to be resilient and try to see the positive side. The positive aspects include the fact that the car was fast and my previous rhythm returned. We will take part in the last three races of the season and see what happens in the Constructors’ Championship.”
