James Vowles, head of Williams Racing, summarized the sad results of the Brazilian weekend, which ended not only with a double retirement for the British team, but also with several serious accidents.
James Vowles: “Sometimes in Formula 1 you manage to achieve incredible results and experience the most joyful emotions, but sometimes you also have to experience very sad moments – that is the nature of our sport. We have to admit that the Brazilian weekend went according to the second of these two scenarios for us.
Our cars have been involved in three very serious accidents within a few hours of each other, and now the team still has a lot of work to do to restore the longevity of the spare parts before we go to Las Vegas.
Our rivals, the Alpine team, were very fast in the race, there is no doubt about that, and they deserved this result (both drivers from the factory Renault team were on the podium). But they earned a lot of points, which allowed them to rise to 6th in the team standings, and we fell back to 9th.
I never give up and I won’t until the last moment. until the checkered flag of the last race in Abu Dhabi, because our team has two fast drivers and we have a fast car. In the remaining stages of the championship we must do everything we can to earn more points, while continuing to prepare for the 2025 and 2026 seasons to achieve our main goals. But the right foundation for this must be laid now.
However, all this does not soften the painful experiences we experience after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, and I watched the race until the end to remember this day, because I really don’t want such failures to be repeated in the future.”
