Horner on Perez: We will look at the facts

In Sunday’s race in Sao Paulo, Sergio Perez missed points for the sixth time this season and finished eleventh. Red Bull Racing head Christian Horner admitted that the team missed the chance to win back in the constructors’ championship because of the Mexican driver.

Christian Horner: “Sergio had a difficult race and a spin on the first lap threw him to the back of the pack. We had the chance to win back a lot of points from Ferrari and McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship, but unfortunately we missed this opportunity. Of course this is disturbing. We are evaluating everything and will hopefully be back in action in Las Vegas.

I wasn’t at the briefing and didn’t hear Sergio’s comments, but during the race it wasn’t clear to me what his problems were related to. Everything in life is subjective, so you have to look at the facts. We work a lot with Sergio, we changed his chassis this weekend. He rode a good sprint, but Sunday was not his day.”

Asked about Perez’s prospects of staying with the team next season, Horner said: “Sergio Perez is our current driver. Liam Lawson has done a great job, especially considering his experience.

Franco Colapinto is also a talented driver and of course we always keep an eye on developments in the driver market.”
