Williams drivers were involved in five serious accidents on the stages in Mexico City and Sao Paulo. Team leader James Vowles, who recently said happily that the team has saved a lot on spare parts costs, is now looking for a way to somehow get the cars ready for Las Vegas.
James Vowles: “The Brazilian weekend was the toughest I can remember in my entire career. In a period of just over seven days we had five major accidents. In Brazil alone there were three between qualifying and the race.
No Formula 1 team can survive five major crashes. This is very painful for us. The spare parts we have are not enough to deal with its consequences.
I have high hopes for Vegas. We were fast on this track last year. I am sure that we will be competitive this year too, so now we are doing everything we can to get the two cars in the best possible condition and to prepare a certain number of spare parts. It is difficult to say what the end result will be.
We continue to receive our cargo from Brazil and decide how we can optimize everything so as not to lose speed.”
