Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said he will appoint the European Grand Prix in the near future, which will be included in the seasonal calendar on a rotational basis. At the same time, Domenicali added that there are no plans to increase the number of stages – there will be 24 Grand Prix in the season.
Stefano Domenicali: “We have news that we will share very soon. The point is that in the medium term a number of European Grand Prix will be included on the calendar on a rotational basis, and other new opportunities will appear later. We will definitely clarify everything when the time comes.
It’s no secret that there is a huge demand from new circuits wanting to get on the calendar. Our choice will always be based on the balance between the economic benefit Formula 1 receives and the potential growth of the market we can enter.
We think we have found the right balance for the number of stages – 24. Any new race proposals that come our way will simply allow us to make better choices in the future.
As always, we need to find the right balance because we cannot be guided solely by financial proposals as these vary from region to region and we must offer our shareholders the right choice.”
In 2026, one of the championship stages will be held on a new circuit in Madrid. Other contenders for a place on the calendar include South Korea, South Africa, Argentina and Colombia.
