This week the Formula E teams were working on official pre-season testing, although the organizers of the electric series had to not only adjust their schedule but also urgently change their location.
We told you that due to the unprecedented scale and consequences of a natural disaster in Valencia, the tests had to be moved to another Spanish circuit: the Circuit del Jarama, located near Madrid.
Today is the last day of testing, their main program has already been completed and on the circuit in Jarama the last laps are not completed by the racers, but by the female racers. In Formula E, a separate session was organized especially for them for the first time, but that is a different story.
Overall, during two and a half days of testing, the Electric Car Racing World Championship teams collected gigabytes of information about the behavior of cars on the track in the new version of GEN3 Evo, and Formula E pilots drove thousands of kilometers. The best time in the tests was set by Mitch Evans, a Jaguar factory team driver who was twice vice world champion.
However, as the press service of the electric series reminds, the lap results are not yet the main indicator, as the most important thing for the teams was to master the new cars as best as possible.
Therefore, the work was mainly focused on finding optimal settings, checking the degree of correlation of the collected data with calculations obtained on the simulator, and achieving the highest possible reliability. It was equally important to find the right approach to the new Hankook iON tires.
Evans’ time, shown today, which no one could overcome – 1 minute. 27.4 seconds. Kiro Race Co. team driver Dan Ticktum moved up to second on the protocol. (formerly ERT), and third was Pascal Wehrlein, the reigning world champion representing the Porsche factory team.
This year’s Formula E season starts in less than a month: the stage will be held in Sao Paulo on December 7.
