In Season 11 of Formula E, the teams from the electric series move to the next generation of cars (Gen3 Evo), and these electric racing cars are much more technically advanced and efficient. Their dynamic properties are promised to be 30% better.
During the official pre-season testing, currently taking place in Spain, the Maserati factory team presented its new car, named Tipo Folgore (Italian for ‘lightning’). This is the name of the all-wheel drive electric road vehicle of the famous Italian brand, created on the platform of the Maserati Grecale crossover.
The car looks quite attractive, but the aesthetic aspect is still secondary, and most importantly – the technical parameters. It is said that the GEN3 Evo electric cars are distinguished by record acceleration qualities: they reach a speed of 100 km/h in 1.86 seconds, which is 30% faster than Formula 1 cars. Such properties are largely achieved by the four-wheel drive transmission.
According to the calculations of the makers of these cars, the lap time on the Monaco city circuit in qualifying mode will be reduced by about 2 seconds.
Cyril Blaise, team principal of Maserati MSG: “We continue to do our utmost to represent this legendary brand well in Formula E. It is a great responsibility to race cars under the recognizable name Tipo Folgore.
Maserati has a proud history, both in motorsport and beyond, and over the past two seasons we have been able to return the brand to the podium in Formula E. This sporting heritage is reflected in its own way in the impressive design of our new car and in the eleventh season of the World Championship we plan to fight for victories.”
Next season, Maserati in Formula E will be driven by Stoffel Vandoorne, who won the electric series title in 2022, and Jake Hughes, who joined the team from McLaren. And in a month’s time the season starts in Brazil: a race will take place on the city circuit in Sao Paulo on December 7.
