Yesterday we talked about a new book that many British Formula 1 enthusiasts will probably give each other at Christmas: Matt Wyman’s Inside Mercedes F1 will be in stores next Tuesday.
The famous British writer and columnist was given unprecedented access to racing behind the scenes and immersed himself in the atmosphere of the Brackley team for a year and a half, communicating with its leaders, racers and many other employees, after which he spoke about everything on the pages of his book.
Considering that Wyman is a very popular author and winner of several literary awards, you would expect the book to be interesting.
We have already quoted some of Toto Wolff’s revelations about Lewis Hamilton, but of course it is no less curious to know what the seven-time world champion, who is about to say goodbye to Mercedes F1 and move to Ferrari, admitted to the author . .
The London tabloid The Mirror gives us this opportunity and quotes some excerpts from Wyman’s book. For example, Hamilton explained to him the reasons for his decision to change teams, which came as a real surprise to Wolff.
Lewis Hamilton: “I feel like I’m ending a relationship that is still perfect because we are still connected by mutual love. I have not yet lost confidence in the team and am leaving to pursue my own goals. After all, this was my childhood dream. I think all the guys who are interested in motorsports dream of the same thing, you know? About getting behind the wheel of a red car.
I’m about to retire, that’s a fact, and I only have a few years left, so I started thinking about how do I look back on all those years? I asked myself: Will I really be happy if I stay on this team and don’t try to have other experiences?
Everything happened last winter, my thoughts were long and difficult. It was a difficult time. In the end it’s great because it’s a real privilege to play for this team and I love working with all these people. I also understand that the transition involves a lot of risk, but I like to take risks. Basically, I just couldn’t get it out of my head and I knew I had to give it a try.
