Berman’s performance in Brazil created a problem for Ferrari

Oliver Berman took part in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and replaced the ill Kevin Magnussen at the wheel of the Haas. The British driver had a strong sprint and race, but Oliver’s performance in Brazil created a problem for the Ferrari team.

The Scuderia planned to put Berman behind the wheel of Carlos Sainz’s car during the first practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The team would therefore meet the requirement of the regulation clause, according to which each team must work with a young driver twice in free practice during the season, because Oliver had already replaced Charles Leclerc during practice in Mexico. However, the race in Brazil was the third of Berman’s career and he no longer falls under the status of ‘young racer’.

The Italian press writes that the Scuderia is considering several drivers to participate in the first practice session in Abu Dhabi, including Robert Schwartzman, but is leaning more towards the candidacy of Antonio Fuoco, who drives for Ferrari AF Corse in the World Endurance Championship.

Fuoco knows the Abu Dhabi circuit and the Ferrari team and took part in two official tests at the Yas Marina Circuit with the Scuderia after the end of the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Ferrari has not yet officially announced who will take the wheel during the first practice session in Abu Dhabi.
