Zac Brown on the 28 Grand Prix calendar

This season’s calendar includes 24 rounds – the largest number in Formula 1 history. Many think it is simply impossible to hold more races, but McLaren Racing chief executive Zak Brown is proposing a plan to include more countries in the future to be able to visit.

Zak Brown: “Formula 1 and the FIA are actively cooperating and discussing among themselves and with the teams all issues related to Formula 1. For our part, we also participate in this work.

I also think that 24 races in one season is the maximum. But perhaps it is worth having twenty permanent stages and eight temporary stages, alternating and taking place every two years. In total we will have the same 24 Grand Prix, which will allow us to be present in 28 markets. That would be great! Considering that we can only physically hold 24 stages per year, this will solve the problem of a growing calendar.

Stefano Domenicali has done an excellent job in shaping the calendar, taking into account events in other sports, television and public holidays. Each of us can draw our own ideal calendar on paper, but as soon as holidays, other competitions or a problem with the broadcaster are squeezed into it, everything collapses like a house of cards. So it is a challenge to take many factors into account and create a calendar that really suits everyone.”
