Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has denied rumors the team discussed a replacement at the start of the season. Lewis Hamilton . With the seven-time world champion’s contract expiring at the end of the 2023 season, there has been speculation in the media that Wolff has been in talks with Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez to replace the Briton in the future.
“I never called Sergio, he’s a good guy and I respect him, but I never spoke to him or contacted another driver. Lewis and I even faced with a less optimistic scenario like the start of this season , are still united in our will to try to improve things and to be together next year. And for several months we said to ourselves that we could continue maybe 5 or 10 years. So all that is not true,” Wolff said.
Hamilton is sixth in the individual driver standings this Formula 1 season.
