You can argue all you want that Ugo Ugochukwu, a 17-year-old American, a participant in the McLaren youth program, simply got lucky in Macau, unlike many of his rivals.
But the fact remains that he won the qualifying race on Saturday and the Macau Grand Prix today, which is considered a very important achievement for any young driver.
Naturally, he was congratulated by the McLaren team and personally by Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing.
“Congratulations to Hugo Ugochukwu, who led and won every lap of the 2024 Macau Grand Prix! – Brown wrote on his social media page. “He showed great skill and determination during a challenging race and we are proud of him!”
Hugo received the winning trophy, once won by legendary drivers such as Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, becoming the first American to win the Macau Grand Prix in over 40 years! This is very cool!”
“Warmest congratulations to Hugo on his victory in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. It caps off a weekend he dominated and is an achievement of great importance!” – added the team’s press office.
