Donnelly: If I were Red Bull, I would call Carlos Sainz

According to Martin Donnelly, a former Formula 1 driver who now works as a third steward at the FIA , Red Bull should make an attempt to get Carlos Sainz so that the Spaniard will replace Sergio Perez as early as 2025.

The Mexican’s results this season are particularly worrying for himself, his fans and of course the team, as it was Perez’s poor performance that saw Red Bull Racing drop to third place in the Constructors’ Championship.

When Donnelly was asked who Red Bull Racing should look at, he said: “Science because he has experience and he wins in a car that is probably good in qualifying but doesn’t stand out well in some races.”

In Austin (where Sainz finished second), Red Bull was behind – perhaps due to the tires or the condition of the track surface, which had changed because the asphalt had been renewed in some places. There are always circumstances.

If I needed a driver, and I wanted the modernization of the car to be effective and the team to move forward, I would call Sainz. Even more important for Red Bull is the ability to consistently earn points in the Constructors’ Championship, as Sergio has given them problems with that.

McLaren has two good drivers who consistently earn points, and Ferrari also has such drivers. That is why Red Bull is only in third place in the constructors’ championship, but it is important that they win in the team competition, because a large prize money is awarded for this.”

As Donnelly suggests, there is a clause in Carlos Sainz’s agreement with Williams that allows for the possibility of early termination of the contract, although James Vowles denies this.

“There is a clause in Sainz’s contract that if one of the top teams, such as Red Bull or Mercedes, makes him an offer, he can leave Williams to take a place in such a team,” said the 60-year-old Formula 1. 1 veteran.
