Villeneuve: Wittich was considered very principled and strict

A few days ago, Nils Wittich was fired as Formula 1 race director, and this news will probably still be discussed at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and it is also possible that it could have long-term consequences.

Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion, believes that the reason for Wittich’s dismissal was not only the decisions he made in the Brazilian phase of the season.

Jacques Villeneuve: “The big news that Nils Wittich is leaving this position three stages before the end of the season is surprising. I would like to know why this happened? We don’t know, but it is possible that this is all related to someone’s personal problems that have nothing to do with motorsport.

In any case, it is very unusual for such changes to occur at this stage of the season. Wittich was a prominent figure in the paddock, he was considered a straightforward person, very principled and strict.”

Of course, Villeneuve alludes to the same thing said on Sky Sports: “There were disagreements between Wittich and FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem, which became one of the factors that led to such events….”
