Today in Barcelona on the Catalan Ring, the final stage of the MotoGP season, called the Solidarity Grand Prix, took place in memory of the victims of the recent floods, the most destructive in Spain’s modern history.
This race was supposed to take place in Valencia, but this region was hardest hit by the natural disaster and the final was moved to Barcelona.
Prima Pramac Racing’s Spanish rider Jorge Martin on a Ducati finished third, but the points he collected during the season were enough to become world champion for the first time.
Carlos Sainz sincerely congratulated his compatriot on this achievement.
“World Champion! Congratulations to Jorge Martin, you are a great racer!” Carlos wrote on his social media page.
Until the last stage of the season, Martin fought for the title with the Italian Francesco Bagnaia, two-time world champion and rider of the Ducati factory team. At the same time, Jorge has only three wins, while his opponent has as many as eleven. But the Spaniard performed slightly more consistently, he had fewer retirements and in 20 stages of the season he was on the podium 13 times in addition to three victories, while finishing second ten times.
