Last weekend, the final stage of the Brazilian Porsche Cup, and therefore in the Endurance classification, took place in Sao Paulo, at the Interlagos circuit. In endurance races, the title went to the crew of Rubens Barrichello and Werner Neugebauer.
The race “500 km Interlagos” was quite dramatic for the participants; not everyone reached the finish line more than once; there were also technical problems and fines for certain rule violations. Barrichello’s crew in particular were also fined, but Rubens and his partner fought to the end and managed to partially recover.
“Partially” – because thanks to an extra pit stop shortly before the finish they completed the distance of 117 laps in only 13th, but this did not stop them from winning the Carrera Cup – a cup in the Endurance classification.
“We became champions in the Endurance category and I am so happy! – Rubens shared on his social media pages. – Thanks to the team for their great and dedicated work! Thanks to Werner Neugebauer for speed and friendship. Thank you sons for your advice and support! At 52, I feel 18 years old. And of course thanks to Interlagos!”
Rubens Barrichello drove in Formula 1 from 1993 to 2011, was a teammate of Michael Schumacher at the Ferrari team and became vice world champion twice during that period. Rubens has achieved 11 victories behind the wheel of Ferrari and Brawn cars.
After retiring from Formula 1, he spent the 2012 season in the American IndyCar Series, before moving to the Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series, where he won the title twice, in 2014 and 2022. And now he has triumphed in the national Porsche Carrera Cup added to his list of achievements.
