The Italian Corriere della Sera recently reported, without citing sources, that Guanyu Zhou, who was left without a contract with Sauber, will move to Ferrari in 2025. It is reported that a reserve pilot contract will be signed with the Chinese driver and he could replace Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc behind the wheel if necessary.
GPBlog journalists sent a direct request to the Scuderia press office asking them to comment on the rumor that Zhou would join the team as a reserve driver. Ferrari’s response was short and sweet: “That’s not true.”
Ferrari has three reserve drivers for 2024: Antonio Giovinazzi, Robert Schwartzman and Oliver Berman. In 2025, two of them will not be able to fulfill their duties: Berman will drive for Haas and Schwartzman will continue his career abroad in IndyCar. The Italian team will have to look for a replacement for them, but as they have now learned, it will not be Guanyu Zhou.
