No other innovation in recent years has caused such polarized opinions as the DRS and the Saturday sprints. On the Formula For Success podcast, former team boss Eddie Jordan said he was unhappy with both decisions.
Eddie Jordan: “In my opinion, sprint racing is a scam. They don’t give anything to Formula 1, at least I haven’t seen anything worthy. It’s time to give sprint racing to newcomers. They simply get in the way of the main pilots.
I think DRS gives an unfair advantage. We saw a scandalous race in Brazil. Lando gained an early lead, but was unable to gain a second lead from Leclerc on the third lap. Charles is close enough, DRS gives him a speed advantage – and puts him in front.
This isn’t a fight. It’s the same as if a boxer has to keep one hand behind his back at times. Anyone would say this was an unfair advantage because he didn’t have every opportunity to protect himself.
My point is this: if you can’t pass fairly, why punish a good driver by giving up his seat? This happens because this stupid rule is in effect: DRS. I don’t support him. I’m old fashioned, call me whatever you want.”
