Last week we told you that the American team Meyer Shank Racing was going to test the professional level of Logan Sargent behind the wheel of an IndyCar car during tests at the Thermal Club circuit in California.
Moreover, there are no vacancies for next season, but if Logan handles the task assigned to him well, the team can keep him in reserve in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Before testing a new car at an unfamiliar track, Sargent said he just didn’t know what to expect, but he prepared for it with a very positive attitude because he had heard a lot of good things about IndyCar cars.
And this is what he said, having already had his first experience driving this car: “First we had to thoroughly study the track and at the same time get acquainted with the car. But it was fun, even though IndyCar technology requires a special approach to driving.
In this respect it is very different to anything I have driven before, but by the end of the session I felt more comfortable behind the wheel. I think I did a pretty good job. I learned how to use the car to its full potential and how to use the tires effectively, and I had the impression that everything was going in the right direction.
We gradually added more, applying different settings – some changes gave good results, others didn’t work. What surprised me most was how quickly the tires lost their peak performance. I felt they should last longer at their maximum, so it was very difficult to get a really good lap.
I have enjoyed working with Meyer Shank Racing, the atmosphere in the team is very warm and in this respect I see big differences with my previous experiences. Everyone works more quietly here, but at the same time everyone is a real professional and knows their trade.”
“The most important thing for us was to get a closer look at Logan and see how everything is going,” said team co-owner Michael Shank. “We said that Logan deserved an invitation to these tests because we really wanted to discover what he can do, although we don’t know where he could be useful to us: in IndyCar, in the IMSA series (American Endurance Racing Championship). or where – something else.”
Overall, Sargent did well and showed the third fastest time in the tests – only Felipe Nasr, who also once competed in Formula 1, and Hunter McElree, vice president of the NXT series, were faster than him.
