It would be foolish to hold on to the last vacancy, because if it doesn’t work out, you’ll have to leave anyway. I negotiated with other teams, but it didn’t go beyond meetings. I really wanted to participate in the Audi project, but this was not meant to be.

The active part of my Formula 1 career did not end in the best way, but this is not my decision. The return to Mercedes has also not yet been decided. I feel like I could do a lot more for this sport. I love racing with the best drivers in the best cars in the world. That’s what I love.”
