Hamilton: I enjoy driving on this track

Lewis Hamilton was the fastest in both practice sessions on the first day of the weekend and admitted after completing the work on the city circuit in Las Vegas that his car had not made such a good impression on him for a long time.

Lewis Hamilton (1st): “I’m in a very good mood! I think my day went so well for the first time this year. The car performed well in both sessions today, although there is still work to be done.

At the same time, it is difficult to say at what level we really are and why we were faster than everyone else today. But I have a lot of fun driving on this track. Now it is important that the car makes the same quality impression tomorrow.

On the one hand, the W15 performs somewhat worse in warm weather, on the other hand, we start to have difficulty with the race pace in cold weather. So now we will continue to work with the car, trying to reach a higher pace in race mode, but at the same time not dropping the speed in one fast lap.

I believe in my own strength and will do everything I can to make changes for the better tomorrow, but I still need a good night’s sleep.”

George Russell (3rd): “It was a really good day for our team. And while these are just training sessions, the results are certainly encouraging. The car has been running normally since the start of the weekend and the driving experience is quite comfortable. Lewis went fast from the first lap and did excellently in both sessions.

It must be admitted that the track surface was quite dirty today. It has gradually become cleaner and grip has increased and I am confident that the surface condition will continue to improve. Most likely the lap times in tomorrow’s qualifying will be about three seconds better.

Now we need to analyze all the information collected and understand why we worked so confidently today and what needs to be done to continue making progress.

It is clear that our opponents will take a step forward, and if we want to stay ahead, we must do everything we can.”
